Embankment construction on soft or loose soils can give rise to engineering challenges which are commonly associated with settlement and lateral stability.

Ground Improvement systems have long been recognised as a cost effective way of densifying or stiffening weak soils and reducing potential settlements. Treatment systems include Dynamic Compaction and Vibro Compaction for large sites on granular soils, landfills, disused quarries and similar Dynamic Replacement or Vibro Replacement and Dry Soil Mixing are commonly employed to reduce settlements in soft and very soft clays with Wet Soil Mixing being used in variable soils.
