Applications

Liquefaction

The phenomenon of liquefaction of granular soils during earthquakes is well documented and understood. The potential for liquefaction can be effectively reduced by densification of the soils beyond their liquefaction potential for a site specific seismic acceleration.

The method used for densifying the soil will be dependent on site specific factors such as the geology, access, location etc but could include, Dynamic Compaction and Vibro-Compaction to improve the whole soil mass or the construction of dense elements in the soil mass using Vibro-Stone Columns or Dry Soil Mixing. If the potentially liquefiable zone is confined to a discrete zone of soil Compaction Grouting or Jet Grouting could be used to improve the soil density.
